The job market in San Antonio is quite healthy; it is a large city with a metro population of about 2.1 million with a diverse economy. As well as the strong military presence and the South Texas Medical Center (which employs over 27,000 people), the three main focuses are on financial services, health care and tourism. Around 20 million tourists visit the city every year. If you have experience in retail, catering or the entertainment industry, you may be able to find work that you will enjoy in one of the biggest cities in the United States. Other common occupations in San Antonio are management and sales. Many job vacancies are for jobs in the fields of physical therapy, occupational therapy and project management. Around 73% of workers in San Antonio work for companies, 14% work for the government, and the remaining 6% are self-employed. If you are looking for a job in educational services, health care or social assistance, you have a good chance of finding work in this city.

Jobs near Lackland Air Force Base are likely to be in the same fields. How easy it will be to find a job depends on how flexible you are in relation to commuting and working hours. The further you are willing to travel to work, the more opportunities are going to be open to you. Often, military families need to relocate to a new city at very short notice, and there may not be time to start job hunting before the move. This does not need to be a bad thing! If you can give yourself time to settle in your new Lackland AFB housing before you commence your job search, you will have time to get used to your new surroundings and find out about the local job market and what’s right for you.
