902d Mission Support Group (902 MSG)

 “Mission first...People always”

Mission of the 902d Mission Support Group

The 902d Mission Support Group provides installation support, which leads to successful missions; this includes leading the way in customer service for the communities of Randolph AFB and Joint Base San Antonio. Dedicated Air Force members are assigned to enhance the mission of the bases by supporting family units and helping prepare Airmen and their families for deployment. The group’s whole purpose is to serve those that are serving in the Air Force. Each squadron/division has a goal to support the people within it, which in turn supports the mission. The 902d MSG reports to the 502d Air Base Wing at Fort Sam Houston and plays a role in such functions as civil engineering, communications, operations support, logistics readiness, trainer development, and force support.

History of the 902 MSG

Established in 1951, the 902 MSG was originally called the 902d Air Base Group. It was inactivated in 1952 and then disbanded in 1984. Years later, in 2009, it was reestablished and given a new designation: the 902d Mission Support Group. In 2010, the 902 MSG became the first unit to join the 502d Air Base Wing as part of Joint Base San Antonio. The Group’s emblem has a star with three points showing, symbolizing the unified efforts of the Air Force, Army, and Navy. The neat part about the group’s emblem is its nod to the group’s heritage, shown by its close resemblance to the original emblem from 1954.
