If you were wounded while serving your country, a number of programs may help you and your family get the San Antonio military housing you need. Some may even donate the housing outright!
Just a few of these programs include:
- Building Homes for Heroes—This program builds homes from the ground up and also helps modify existing homes for soldiers wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan. If you already own San Antonio military housing and need your home better equipped now that you’ve been wounded, Building Homes for Heroes may be able to help. To apply, complete an online application and provide your discharge certificate, medical records and photos.
- Homes on the Homefront—Through a partnership with Chase Bank, this program provides housing for military members who have served our country, as well as their families. Program staff purchases homes across the country that they renovate and prepare for move-in. Then, eligible military members can apply online for their desired home. To be eligible, you must be on active, guard or reserve duty or have been honorably discharged. You must not own a home.
- Homes 4 Wounded Heroes—Through this program, the Military Warriors Support Foundation provides mortgage-free housing to veterans who have been injured while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. To apply, you must have been wounded in combat, be honorably discharged or separated from the military and not currently have a mortgage. Purple Heart recipients are preferred.
- Homes for Our Troops—This program raises money, uses donated building materials and seeks volunteer laborers to build no-cost housing for wounded veterans. To apply, veterans must have returned home from service after Sept. 11, 2001.
